Balance & Fall Prevention

balance and fall prevention exerciseDecreased balance is a problem that can develop for a variety of reasons. It can be caused by an inner ear problem, stroke, muscle weakness, or just as a byproduct of the aging process.

One of the largest predictors of falling is having a fear of falling. There are many ways that a physical therapist can help to decrease your risk of falling and improve your balance. These include strengthening the leg muscles and core, performing balance exercises, and assessing if there is a need for some type of assistive device like a cane or walker.

The physical therapist will perform a complete and thorough evaluation to determine what the best plan of care is to improve your balance and decrease your risk of falling.
